HP DV2000 DV6000 DV9000 AND COMPAQ V3000 V6000

HP & COMPAQ and the geforce nvidia issue, the thermal paste that connects the graphics chip to the heat sink over time cracks and shrinks, the graphics chip then gets that hot the solder melts !! the pins that hold the chip in place expand, and eventually the chip does not connect to the motherboard, and you get the 3 beeps at start up, telling you there's a graphics problem..
HP have extended the warranty to 2 years on some models in the HP DVxxx series and Compaq V3000 and V6000. But all models with the nvidia chip set are proving to have this fault !!!
The models (tag numbers) being covered seam to be the ones sold on mass to corperate customers !!! IE:- The poor chaps on the street who bought HP or Compaq laptop tops are being left out in the cold with a laptop that is both unfit for purpose and costs more than its worth to repair
Also many HP DV2000's where shipped with Compaq mother boards, so when you go on the HP extended warranty site, you are not covered !! how ever if you check the tag number under Compaq v3000 or v6000 you will see your motherboard is covered, and if you call HP they will the honor the extend warranty but only if you point this out to them !!! They don't check it for you !! This is strange as in the USA HP seam to have corrected this problem !! please see the difference between the EURO and USA HP warranty sites below :-

It is my opion that HP and nivida are running scared there are millions of laptops and owners out there being ripped off. Nvidia have put millions aside to cover the part extended warranty :-
These include HP's Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 series laptops, and the Compaq Presario V3000 and V6000 series as well. Nvidia owned up to a problem earlier this month, and announced it was taking.
"a one-time charge from $150 million to $200 million ... to cover anticipated warranty, repair, return, replacement and other costs and expenses, arising from a weak die/packaging material set in certain versions of its previous generation GPU and MCP products used in notebook systems." ((GPU HEAT SINK PASTE)+(WHY NOT JUST USE ARTIC SILVER PASTE AND COPPER ??) 'JACK')

But the millions are not being spent fixing all the models at fault loads of people are being left out in the cold... if you are one of them please email a letter to Mark Hurd (the CEO of HP) via the HP website at:-

Here is a list of faults that that relate to this issue :-
The following symptoms apply to Pavilion dv2000 and Presario V3000 notebooks:-
The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
The following symptoms apply to the dv6000, dv9000 and V6000 series notebooks:
The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.The notebook has no power and no active LEDs.
The notebook does not start.The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is installed and the AC adapter is connected.
The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power.
The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.

IN THE USA A LAW SUIT HAS BEEN ISSUED AGAINT NIVIDA AND HP OVER THIS BUT YET IN IN THE UK THEY ARE NOT EVEN GIVING OUT THE CORRECT SERVICE TAG NUMBERS !!

They've known about this since at least Sept 07 when they updated the BIOS to keep the fans on full blast making the laptops not only hot but noisy too.HP should stop burying their head in the sand, sort out the problem and pass on the cost the component manufacturer responsible not the consumer!
